Entertainers turned up in large numbers on Sunday, December 11, 2022, when actress, film producer, and deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Funke Akindele, premiered her latest movie titled, ‘Battle on Buka Street’.
The movie centres on the ‘battle’ between two women who confront each other in a food challenge in order to win the prestigious ‘King of Buka Street’, a title conferred to the best local food seller in the region. It was directed by Funke Akindele and Tobi Makinde.
In an interview with Merrymakers, Akindele noted that the movie was inspired by the need to celebrate culture and food, through the storytelling.
She said, “I am telling a story about celebrating our culture and food. All I want to preach in the movie is to celebrate culture, food, and also celebrate oneness and unity at all levels, including the family, state and country. The cultural essence was ensuring that we brought everybody together. There was no segregation, discrimination or tribalism. It was just Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa people coming together to preach unity in Nigeria. Fans should look for ways to entertain themselves, while also celebrating our culture, food and unity.”
Fuji musician, Alao Malaika, also thrilled guests at the event as many danced to his music.
Other personalities in attendance include the Lagos State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Abdul-Azeez Adeniran, aka Jandor; Sola Sobowale, Iyabo Ojo, Priscilla Ojo, Venita Akpofure, Moet Abebe, Genoveva Umeh, Wunmi Toriola, Toke Makinwa, Bolanle Ninalowo, Toyin Lawani, Kunle Afolayan, Kunle Afod, Nkechi Blessing, Peter Okoye, Uti Nwachukwu, Femi Adebayo, Funso Adeolu and Akah Nani.
