The Corps Marshal of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dauda Ali Biu, is in Maiduguri for an official visit to Borno State.
Biu, who spoke to newsmen on Monday, said the visit was to meet FRSC personnel and other stakeholders, including transporters.
“We are in Borno for a couple of days to assess and see how our operatives are faring.
“There are several issues and challenges around here and we need to boost their morale.
“We also intend to sit down with stakeholders, especially the road transport unions.
“We also intend to see the state Governor to thank him on behalf of the entire management of FRSC because he has done a lot in supporting us.
“The Government of Borno made our stay very comfortable in the state; our men are feeling safe based on some measures taken by Governor Babagana Zulum,” the Corps Marshal said.
Biu, who also spoke on over speeding, particularly by some commercial bus (hummer) drivers, said the need for speed limit device to regulate them has become necessary.
He lamented the practice of conveying animals with humans by some truck drivers, adding that it was one of the issues alongside over speeding and overloading of passengers to be discussed by his team with transporters.
Biu observed that such dangerous practice mostly by drivers conveying livestock and other goods from Northern parts of Nigeria to the South has been putting many lives in danger, particularly when accidents occur.
