Everton manager Frank Lampard is adamant the Merseyside club can match the ambition of England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

The Three Lions No.1 enjoyed another reputation enhancing international tournament and hardly put a foot wrong as Gareth Southgate’s side narrowly missed out on a place in the semi finals.

Pickford has maintained his position as Southgate’s undisputed first choice, despite plying his trade for a club that have been fighting to preserve its top flight status in recent seasons.

With the likes of Aaron Ramsdale and Nick Pope now providing serious competition for clubs who could both be in the Champions League next term, Pickford could be forgiven for contemplating his own future.

Chelsea are likely to be in the market for a new goalkeeper in the summer amid speculation over the futures of both Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy who his said to have rejected the club’s latest contract offer.

Manchester United, too, are on the lookout for David de Gea’s long-term replacement and Pickford’s ability on the ball marks him out as an ideal goalkeeper for Erik ten Hag.

Both United and Chelsea have been linked with moves for the former Sunderland star but Lampard insists Pickford has all he needs at Everton to enjoy a fulfilling career.

‘I feel we can,’ said Lampard when asked if Everton could convince Pickford to commit his long-term future to the club. ‘I don’t think it’s straightforward to look at any individual and understand what their ambitions are.

‘Jordan is England’s number one and has secured that position, which has been an amazing achievement because we know how difficult that is.

‘He’s played at Everton and was a huge reason why we had a great run towards the end of last season and stayed in the league.

‘Everyone knows Jordan was a massive part of that. I don’t want to speak for him but Jordan feels very happy at this club. That’s the impression I get.

‘We are a huge club with a big history and big ambition and he is a big part of that.

‘Maybe I was fortunate to play Champions League a lot but when I felt comfortable at a club I came in with a smile on my face every day and I looked forward to every game and if Jordan feels like that and we can match each other’s ambitions, I don’t see that as a problem.’
