Frank Lampard says Christian Pulisic will be a ‘big player’ for Chelsea after Jamie Carragher compared the American to Eden Hazard following his brilliant cameo against Liverpool.

The 21-year-old came off the bench at the hour mark with Chelsea three goals behind, but a magical dribble and assist, followed by a fantastic goal of his own, saw Pulisic drag his side back into the game – though they ultimately conceded again and lost 5-3 at Anfield.

Nevertheless, Carragher said Pulisic’s influence on the game was ‘Eden Hazard-like’, showering him with praise, and Lampard – who has previously resisted the comparisons to the Belgian – predicts his winger will have a massive future.

Asked about Carragher’s comparison with Hazard, and how important Pulisic will be moving forward, Lampard said: ‘Yeah, hugely important. He has had that impact.

‘I was here for Eden’s first year and it is not easy coming to the Premier League, and even for Eden in that first year it was adapting to the Premier League.

‘Christian has had his moments of that but since mid-season he had a really good patch and then since restart he has been in incredible form.

‘Only the injury he picked up in the Norwich game has kept him out of the semi-final when he’s flying.

‘But [against Liverpool] he came on and played 40 minutes which is great for feeling confident about the injury and showed the qualities which he’s been showing. So, yeah, huge.

‘He is so young and he has such natural talent and he creates goals and scores goals.

‘He is a big player for us so I’m delighted to see him come through fit. Clearly he will be a big player in these next few games for us and going forward as well.’

Pulisic’s goal against Liverpool was his ninth in the Premier League this season, which equals Hazard’s goal tally when he first arrived from Lille, though the American has done it in just 24 games as well as laying on six assists.
