Chelsea have already invested heavily in the transfer market with a view to strengthening their already formidable forward line, but Frank Lampard is far from finished with his summer spending.

The FA Cup finalists have secured deals for Ajax winger Hakim Ziyech, who has already commenced training with is new team-mates, and beat Liverpool to the services of Germany international striker Timo Werner.

Chelsea can secure Champions League qualification should they avoid defeat against Wolves on Sunday at Stamford Bridge, a remarkable achievement given Lampard was unable to sign players last summer, while progress on the pitch has been undermined by an increasingly shaky defence.

The Blues have shipped 54 goals – more than any other team currently in the top half of the table – and the form of record signing Kepa Arrizabalaga has been largely responsible.

The Spain international goalkeeper cost Chelsea a club record £72million in the summer of 2018 but he has come nowhere close to justifying that fee. He was taken out of the firing line earlier this season, replaced by experienced deputy Willy Caballero, but his form has scarcely improved since he earned a recall.

According to ESPN, Lampard has already lost patience with the 25-year-old and fears he will struggle to develop into the authoritative, commanding goalkeeper he requires to advance his rebuilding job.

Chelsea are said to be close to adding another attacking player, Kai Havertz, to their squad and once that deal is complete Lampard will turn his attentions to signing a new No.1.

The Blues have been linked with the likes of Andre Onana, Marc Andre ter Stegen and Manchester United’s Dean Henderson, who has excelled while on loan at Sheffield United.

Lampard, however, wants to recruit an experienced goalkeeper which would rule out the possibility of making a move for 23-year-old Henderson who has only one season of top flight experience under his belt.
