A further hearing date has been set ahead of the re-trial of former Manchester United star Ryan Giggs.

The retired footballer, 49, is accused of assaulting his former partner Kate Greville, causing actual bodily harm, and using controlling and coercive behaviour against her from August 2017 to November 2020.

He is also charged with the common assault of Ms Greville’s younger sister, Emma.

A jury at previous trial was discharged in August, last year, after they were unable to reach verdicts.

Giggs did not attend a pre-trial hearing today at Manchester Crown Court ahead of the re-trial on July 31.

There were various legal discussions, which can’t be reported, and judge Hilary Manley said a further hearing would be required on July 6.

During Giggs’ time at Old Trafford, Manchester United won 13 Premier League titles, two Champions League trophies, four FA Cups and three League Cups.

Giggs stood down as manager of the Wales national team following a period of leave since November 2020.

He won 64 caps for Wales and is co-owner of League Two side Salford.
