Calum Chambers will still be in Arsenal fans’ good books as he stuck the boot into Tottenham after Aston Villa beat Spurs on New Year’s Day.
Villa picked up an impressive 2-0 win at Tottenham on Sunday, with goals from Douglas Luiz and Emiliano Buendia ruining Antonio Conte’s start to the new year.
Chambers signed for the Villains from Arsenal last year after spending eight years with the Gunners and, although he never really broke through at the Emirates, fans of his former club will be pleased with him now.
The 27-year-old tweeted after the win at Spurs: ‘North London is…Claret. Happy New Year! #UTV.’
Chambers has not been a regular at Villa since making the move north, but did come on late in the win at Tottenham to make his fourth Premier Leageu appearance of the season.
Spurs losing at home completed an excellent weekend for Arsenal fans after they saw their team win 4-2 at Brighton on New Year’s Eve.
With Manchester City being held to a shock draw by Everton, the Gunners are now seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table after 16 matches.
Mikel Arteta’s side will put their immense form to the test on Tuesday night when they host Newcastle at the Emirates.
Like the Gunners, the Magpies have been picking up better results than most people expected so far this campaign and sit third in the table behind Manchester City.
Arsenal have scored 40 goals in their 16 games so far this campaign, but face the division’s stingiest defence on Tuesday, with Newcastle conceding just 11 in 17 outings.
