One of the residential blocks at the University College Hospital in Ibadan, Oyo State, was gutted by fire Tuesday evening.
The state General Manager of Fire Service, Akinyinka Akinyemi, who confirmed this to The PUNCH on the phone, said the fire had been put off.
Though, no life was lost and the cause of the fire incident was not known as of press time, it was further learnt that the incident happened around 5pm.
One of the residents, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told PUNCH Metro on phone that many items were lost to the inferno. She declined further comments.
However, Akinyemi said the fire started around 5pm and the service was alerted around 5:38pm.
He said, “Yes, it is true, one of the residential blocks at UCH, Ibadan (was gutted by fire), around 5pm, but we were called by 5:38pm through one Mrs Motunrayo. The fire was completely extinguished around 7:27pm.”
