The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, has stated that the Board’s capacity to conduct large-scale examinations is widely recognised by all and sundry.
The Registrar stated this when the Permanent Secretary, Federal Civil Service Commission(FCSC), Dr. Mary Okpe, paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
The Registrar, in his address, pointed out that the Board had the capacity to conduct large-scale assessments, tests or other data collection procedures, and administered tailored tests to large numbers of students at the same time. He, therefore, stated that the 5,000 candidates being expected by the Commission for registration and examination could not be compared to the huge number of candidates it examines annually in its Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), and its other third-party assessment commitments.
Furthermore, Prof. Oloyede disclosed that the Board had registered 1,595,779 candidates in less than 34days in the just-concluded 2023 UTME registration exercise and advised the Commission to be sure of its records and ready its template for a seamless registration exercise.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary had stated that her delegation was in JAMB to express appreciation to the Registrar for attending the Commission’s Management Retreat held on 6th February, 2023. She added that the visit was aimed at operationalising the resolve of the Commission to digitise its operations.
She also informed the Board that the Commission would hold its 2023 Civil Service Examinations between the months of May and June, 2023, and sought the support of the Board to ensure a smooth exercise.
According to her, the visit was to also afford her the opportunity to ask pertinent questions and seek clarifications on some other grey areas with a view to having a successful pilot scheme for the proposed digitisation.
It would be recalled that the theme of the Commission’s Retreat was: “Repositioning Federal Civil Service Commission for Efficient and Effective Service” to further its digitisation drive, while the Registrar had presented a paper titled: “The Imperative of Computer-Based Test for the Conduct of Promotion Exercise in the Civil Service of Nigeria”.
