The 20 drivers who will be racing in Formula One in 2024 have finally been confirmed after Williams renewed Logan Sargeant’s contract on Friday.

It was expected that the British team would reveal Alex Albon’s teammate for next year ahead of the season finale in Abu Dhabi last weekend but no announcement was made.

However, a radio message between Sargeant as his engineer suggested that the 22-year-old would be sticking with the team.

That news has now been made official, with the American racer saying: ‘I am thrilled to be continuing with Williams Racing for the 2024 season.

‘It has been an incredible journey with the team so far, and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue developing as a driver within such a talented and dedicated group.

‘We have exciting plans for the future, and I can’t wait to contribute to the team’s success in the coming year.’

2023 was a good year for Williams who finished seventh in the constructors’ championship, though this was almost exclusively down to Albon who scored 27 of their 28 points.

With only one point to his name, Sargeant finished second bottom in the drivers’ standings, enduring a tough, rookie campaign, though he showed improvement as the season progressed.

A few names were linked with replacing him, including Mick Schumacher, Liam Lawson and Frederik Vesti, though none of these rumours had much weight to them.

‘I am pleased to continue our journey with Logan into the 2024 season,’ Williams team principal James Vowles added.

‘Logan has demonstrated immense skill whilst under the pressure of the world stage, making him a perfect fit for our team.

‘We have great confidence in his abilities and believe that together we can achieve even greater success in the upcoming season.’

It means that, remarkably, the grid is unchanged from the end of 2023 to the start of the 2024 season, which gets under way on 2nd March in Bahrain.
