Abbas Sani Abbas, the recently dismissed Commissioner for Rural and Community Development in Kano State, has officially left the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and joined the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mr. Abbas, along with five other commissioners, was relieved of his duties last month by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in what was described as a cabinet shakeup aimed at strengthening the administration.

His defection to the APC was announced during a visit to top APC leaders, including the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin in Kano.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Mr. Jibrin shared the news of Mr. Abbas’ defection, stating: “I welcomed Hon. Abbas Sani Abbas to our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), a moment ago.

“He served as the Commissioner for Rural and Community Development in Kano State until last month. During a visit to us in Kano, he announced his exit from the NNPP to the APC.”

The Deputy Senate President praised Mr. Abbas for his dedication to grassroots mobilization and expressed optimism about his contributions to the APC.

“Joined by the Chairman of our party in Kano State, Prince Abdullahi Abbas (Ɗan Sarki, Jikan Sarki), and other party leaders, we proudly embraced Hon. Abbas, a dedicated grassroots mobiliser to our party. We assured him of our support as we work together to build a better future for the people of Kano State and, indeed, all Nigerians,” Mr. Jibrin added.
