Senator Mohammad Goje, a former Governor of Gombe State, on Monday dismissed reports that he participated in the just concluded primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Gombe Central.
Goje, in a statement issued in Abuja by his Special Assistant, Ahmed Isa, said that he remained a loyal and proud member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The chairman of the Senate Committee on Marine Transport was reacting to reports on the social media about ballot papers of the PDP for Gombe Central Senatorial District with a photo of him as one of the contenders.
Goje insisted that the photo on the PDP ballot paper was the handwork of a mischief-maker bent on tarnishing his image.
“The attention of His Excellency, Senator Danjuma Goje, has been drawn to reports in the social media claiming that he took part in the Peoples Democratic Party’s Senatorial Primary said to have taken place on Monday, May 23, 2022,” the statement read.
“Senator Goje is a proud member of the All Progressives Congress and the serving Senator on the platform of the APC. He is not a member of the PDP. He did not take part in the PDP primary in Gombe for the position of Senator or any other position.
“Senator Goje’s photograph on the PDP ballot paper is the work of mischief-makers and political opponents bent on tarnishing his image.”
Meanwhile, the PDP in Gombe State concluded its State House of Assembly and House of Representatives primaries across the state on Sunday.
In all, only three females were elected out of the 30 contested seats in both elections; two for the State Assembly while one clinched the House of Representatives ticket in the primaries.
The female candidates are Meriji Majoro for Balanga South and Saratu Jauro, Balanga North, while Aishatu Ahmad won for Akko Federal Constituency.
