Ex-EPL footballer, Sol Bamba dies at 39

Former Cardiff City and Leeds defender, Sol Bamba, has died at 39.

Bamba passed away on Saturday, as he was preparing for Adanaspor game.

The Ivorian was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma back in December 2020, but was believed to be in the clear.

The Turkish club revealed the news in a statement.

It read: “Our Technical Director Souleymane Bamba, who fell ill before the Manisa Football Club match played yesterday, was taken to Manisa Celal Bayar University Hospital and unfortunately lost his battle for life there.

“Our condolences to his family and our community.”

After his retirement in 2022, Bamba switched to coaching and took up the role of an assistant manager for his former club Cardiff, before moving to Adanaspor.

Bamba had been working as the club’s head coach since the summer.
