Former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham has earned a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad for upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Hungary.

The Blues academy graduate made the £34million switch to Roma, joining another ex-Chelsea man in Jose Mourinho.

Abraham has thrived since his move to the Serie A club, scoring four goals in nine appearances across all competitions so far.

The Athletic report that the 24-year-old will now join up with the England team ahead of the Andorra and Hungary games.

The report states that Abraham will not be replacing anyone already named in the squad.

Abraham already has six caps for the Three Lions, making his international debut in a friendly against Germany in November 2017.

He opened his goalscoring account for England in a Euro 2020 qualifying match against Montenegro in 2019 – a match which Southgate’s side won 7-0.

England travel away to Andorra on Saturday, October 9 before hosting Hungary at Wembley on Tuesday, October 12.

Roma boss Mourinho heaped praise on Abraham after the Italian club’s 2-0 win over Empoli on Sunday, even though the striker didn’t score.

‘There are strikers who if they don’t score it doesn’t matter, others instead if they don’t score then they make a contribution equal to zero,’ said the Portuguese boss.

‘Then there are those who do not score and are the best in the field and this is Tammy.

‘He played a terrific game.’
