Tuchel would be interested in the England job if it becomes available after the World Cup in Qatar and he is still not back in a managerial role by then.
Southgate’s England contract runs until 2024, but it is certainly not out of the question that he could leave his post after the World Cup this winter.
Tuchel is thought to have turned down several roles since he was sacked by Chelsea in September, including offers from Aston Villa and Bayer Leverkusen.
The former Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain boss still has a good reputation in England having guided Chelsea to Champions League and Club World Cup glory during his stint in West London, which lasted under two years.
If he took charge of the Three Lions, it would be a historic appointment by the Football Association as Tuchel would become the first German to manage England and only the third foreigner after Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.
Quizzed if he would consider a job in international management, Tuchel said: ‘Yeah, why not? I would, I would.
‘I did not give too much thought to it until now.
‘But I would consider if it is the right team and if it has the potential to win trophies like the World Cup and the Euros.’
England finished Euro 2020 at runners-up and shortly head to Qatar as they attempt to win the second World Cup in the country’s history.
At the last World Cup in 2018, Southgate led England to a fourth-placed finish with an impressive run to the semi-finals in one of their best-ever tournaments.
There are several England stars that Tuchel will know well from his time at Chelsea including Mason Mount, Reece James and Ben Chilwell.
