Patrice Evra is ‘in love’ with Bruno Fernandes but did not think the Manchester United midfielder was man of the match against Brighton.

Fernandes was at his glorious best on Tuesday night, scoring twice in a 3-0 win over Graham Potter’s side to keep United firmly in the top-four hunt.

Mason Greenwood scored the other goal in what was a fine night for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side as they moved to within three points of third-place Leicester and just two behind Chelsea – although both have a game in hand.

Fernandes’ performance saw him handed the official man of the match award, but Evra actually thought fellow midfielder Nemanja Matic was worthy of the gong.

‘It’s massive,’ Evra told Sky Sports. ‘We should give him the man of the match before the game even starts!

‘I’m in love with this player, I’m really impressed because coming in is not easy.

‘Even the way he talks is positive. He’s not pretending to be anyone.

‘But we talk about Fernandes and Pogba, but what about Matic?

‘He was my man of the match today because without him I don’t think Paul and Fernandes can express themselves.’
