On Saturday, May 6, 2023, the world will witness the first British coronation in 70 years. The coronation will formally declare history’s longest-governing Prince of Wales, Charles III, as King.

King Charles III legally ascended to the throne after his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, died on the September 8, 2022.

The coronation will take place at Westminster Abbey, London, and will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

King Charles III will wear two crowns during the ceremony: St. Edward’s crown and the Imperial State Crown. Edward’s crown will only be used for ceremony purposes before being switched out for the Imperial Crown, for the procession back to Buckingham Palace.

Invitations have been dispatched to less than 3000 guests unlike the 8,000 people who attended the Queen’s Coronation. Among them will be the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to join other world leaders, members of the royal family, representatives from the Houses of Parliament and the Church, prominent politicians from the Commonwealth and around the world.
