Erik ten Hag will move to sign a new right-back in January providing Manchester United can offload Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Diogo Dalot has been one of United’s stand-out performers this season, firmly establishing himself as the manager’s first-choice option at right-back.
The Portuguese is the only player aside from David de Gea to have started all 19 matches this season, playing the full 90 in all but four of those.
Wan-Bissaka meanwhile has only managed four minutes of football under ten Hag this season with the United boss desperate to bring in an upgrade to provide cover and compete with Dalot in the first-team.
The Telegraph report however those plans will likely hinge on Wan-Bissaka leaving the club.
Crystal Palace were interested in re-signing their former academy player in the summer after it became clear ten Hag had deemed him surplus to requirements but United opted to hold onto the player.
That situation could change in the New Year.
Ten Hag could choose to give Wan-Bissaka a runout in the EFL Cup third round clash against Aston Villa on Thursday, with Dalot suspended for Sunday’s trip to Fulham – United’s final game before the World Cup break.
Failing to get into the side for the trip to London with Dalot unavailable would serve as a damning indictment of Wan-Bissaka’s first-team chances going forward.
Ten Hag could explore the options of deploying Tyrell Malacia or Victor Lindelof at right-back, should the former Palace star not feature in his plans.
Among the options to come in at right-back for United is Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong.
According to recent reports from Sky Sport Germany, Frimpong is one of the players on United’s list and they are exploring a potential move.
The Netherlands Under-21 international, who is enjoying an excellent campaign so far, is very familiar with British football having come through the academy at Manchester City – which he joined as a schoolboy in 2010 – before moving to Celtic in 2019.
