Erik ten Hag is still angry over Manchester United’s 3-1 defeat at Arsenal in September, brining up the result as his side beat Liverpool 4-3 on Sunday.
After United beat their arch rivals in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, the Red Devils manager was asked if the win could be a turning point for his side.
In his answer, the Dutchman referenced Arsenal’s 3-1 victory over United on September 3, in which his team lost in controversial circumstances.
Alejandro Garnacho thought he had netted an 88th-minute winner at the Emirates but the United star was denied by a close VAR offside call before Arsenal scored twice in added time.
‘It could be [a turning point],’ Ten Hag said after United beat Liverpool 4-3. ‘But we have missed so many opportunities.
‘For instance, at Arsenal, was it the fourth game of the season? We should have had a penalty for a foul on Rasmus Hojlund.
‘Then we scored with Garnacho, disallowed. Then we concede a goal which should have always been disallowed.
‘Such moments can help you. Every team needs its moment in a season. We never had it. But this could be the moment.’
Meanwhile, Ten Hag has hailed Marcus Rashford for inspiring his teammates to victory over Liverpool.
The United boss also singled out Amad Diallo and Aaron Wan-Bissaka for praise as the Red Devils booked their spot in the FA Cup semi-finals.
