Sancho endured a tough start to the season at Old Trafford which ultimately culminated in the winger being exiled from first-team training after he publicly criticised Ten Hag and social media and then refused to apologise.
The Englishman rejoined Dortmund on loan in January and played a key role in the German side reaching the Champions League semi-final in midweek with a dramatic win over Atletico Madrid.
However, the Dutchman was reticent to suggest that his improved displays altered his prospects at Old Trafford should he return in the summer.
‘I follow international football and follow the players on loan at other clubs,’ Ten Hag said at his pre-match press conference ahead of his side’s FA Cup semi-final.
‘It was a fantastic game, Dortmund against Atletico Madrid, a great performance from Dortmund and for Jadon it’s good news, he made his contribution to the result for Dortmund.’
However, when pressed on whether such performances changed anything about Sancho’s future under his management, Ten Hag said: ‘No, but we know Jadon Sancho is a fantastic football player, so that is not a surprise for us, that is not the issue.’
Alejandro Garnacho, meanwhile, who has replaced Sancho on United’s right wing in the Englishman’s absence, was forced to apologise in midweek after his own social media activity landed him in hot water.
The Argentine was hauled off at half-time against Bournemouth last week but caused further consternation when he liked two posts on X from YouTuber Mark Goldbridge who labelled his substitution as a ‘joke’.
Earlier in the week, a United spokesperson said that the incident had been dealt with internally, with Ten Hag confirming that the 19-year-old admitted his wrongdoing
‘Alejandro is a young player, he said. ‘He has to learn a lot. He has apologised for it and we move on.’
United face Championship side Coventry on Sunday as they look to keep alive hopes of silverware in what has been an otherwise disappointing campaign.
