Eric Dier condemned the ‘unacceptable’ behaviour of a Tottenham fan who kicked Aaron Ramsdale following the side’s defeat to Arsenal on Sunday.
The Gunners went eight points clear at the top of the table with a comfortable 2-0 win at the home of their closest rivals.
However, the match was overshadowed somewhat when England goalkeeper Ramsdale was kicked by a fan after the full-time whistle.
The former Sheffield United ace was embroiled in a dispute with Richarlison after the final whistle was blown and the pair had to be separated by the officials.
Ramsdale then made his way to collect his belongings behind the goal when a supporter ran down the stairs of the stand and kicked him.
Ramsdale was understandably furious and tempers flared, with a number of the goalkeeper’s team-mates descending on the scene.
But Dier, who famously climbed into the stands after a defeat to Norwich City in the FA Cup in 2020 to confront angry home fans, says the behaviour is ‘unacceptable’.
‘I didn’t see it but obviously it is unacceptable and it shouldn’t have happened. There’s nothing more I can say,’ said Dier.
Speaking after the game, Ramsdale revealed what happened in the incident.
‘Spurs fans were giving me some crack second half, and I gave them some back,’ said Ramsdale.
‘The few people I did give it to it was probably well greeted, in a sportsmanship way. But then a fan jumped over and gave me a little punch in the back.’
