Former Premier League striker, Carlton Palmer has warned Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag that Cristiano Ronaldo is going to give him major problems this season.

Ronaldo has been the talk of the summer after telling Manchester United he wants to leave Old Trafford.

The Portugal international wants to play in a team in the Champions League this season but Man United have been reluctant to let him go.

The 37-year-old’s list of options has run thin with many of the top clubs in Europe ruling out a potential move.

He did not join United on their pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia, citing ‘family reasons’.

The Portugal international took part in the friendly on Sunday against Rayo Vallecano, but left Old Trafford at half-time.

Ten Hag later said the former Juventus star’s behaviour was ‘unacceptable’.

Palmer told talkSPORT, “Ronaldo knows, he’s been in the game long enough, that unless he has had permission from the manager, which he clearly hasn’t because Ten Hag has come out and said what he has.”

The football pundit and former manager noted that Ronaldo has decided to act in that way to force his way out of Old Trafford, having made up his mind to leave.

“I know he scored 17 goals last season and he’s the ‘GOAT’, but there are rules and all the rest of the team have to follow those rules,” he added.
