The match-day 2 fixture of the 2024–25 English Premier League season is set to offer some intriguing match-ups this weekend.

Recall that the new Premier League campaign started last week.

The likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool all won their opening matches.

Chelsea, Everton and West Ham United failed to win at home, losing against Man City, Brighton and Aston Villa, respectively.

However, this weekend, fans and pundits alike are talking about the potential for some shocking results.

With Wolves set to take on Chelsea, Liverpool hosting Brentford, Man City welcoming Ipswich Town, and Tottenham facing off against Everton, there are some fascinating contests to look forward to.

First up is Wolves vs Chelsea. Both teams lost their opening matches of the season against Arsenal and Manchester City by the same scoreline of 2-0. On paper, Chelsea are expected to beat Wolves and get their first win of the campaign. With Wolves also looking to take all three points against Enzo Maresca’s side, this could be a closely fought affair as Wolves would hope to make use of their home advantage against the Blues.

Meanwhile, Manchester City will be looking for a straightforward win against Ipswich Town, but they can ill-afford to underestimate their opponent.

Ipswich Town lost their first game of the season against Liverpool last week. Kieran McKenna’s men will hope to avoid another defeat this weekend when they face Pep Guardiola’s side at the Etihad Stadium and this could be a potential boost for them.

Liverpool will be looking to put in a strong performance against Brentford at Anfield. Both teams won their first game of the season last week against Ipswich Town and Crystal Palace, respectively.

The Reds are sure to be wary of the visitors, who impressed against Palace. Brentford could claim a famous scalp against the host on Sunday evening.

Finally, Tottenham Hotspur will be hoping to bounce back from their 1-1 draw against Leicester City last Monday when they host Everton this weekend. However, with Everton losing 3-0 in their first game of the season against Brighton last week, this game could be a closer affair than many are expecting.
