Yoruba One Voice (YOV) has condemned the shooting of End SARS protestors in Lagos.
The group called for prosecution of culpable federal and state officials as well as security operatives.
In a statement on Friday, YOV Communications Director, Zacheaus Somorin, said, “the killings were premeditated, callous, criminal and contravene democratic engagement”.
YOV decried the omission of the Lekki incident in President Muhammadu Buhari’s speech on Thursday.
The body stressed that “the President’s silence undermines the gravity of the situation”.
YOV called on the international community to sustain its focus on Nigeria before it slides into total anarchy.
The Yoruba organisation insisted that the Lagos government cannot deny complicity in the mayhem.
“Why did they remove cameras? Why did they put off street lights? These actions were deliberate and in bad faith.
”We urge the global community to sustain interventions in Nigeria. We call on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to prosecute those directly/indirectly in the Lekki attack,” Somorin added.
The statement, however, condemned lawlessness and looting by hoodlums.
“Violence negates the spirit and aim of the #End SARS struggle. Those who attacked homes, businesses and government establishments must be arrested and brought to justice.”
YOV commiserates with families of police brutality, victims and demand that panels set up by governors ensure that they get justice.
