The National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Niger State chapter, has appealed to the federal and Niger State governments to take proactive measures to end the incessant killings of farmers in the state.

Abdullahi Mohammed, NYCN President in the state, on Saturday stated that the insecurity has led to the closure of over 200 schools in local communities for the past three years.

He noted that Minna, the state capital, has continued to witness ungodly activities of thugs and miscreants who have been disturbing the peace of residents and also lamented that the state has not tamed the tide of banditry and insurgency that has displaced thousands of rural farmers.

He said: “The government should engage traditional rulers and youths in the ongoing fight against insecurity [and] security operatives should be fully equipped with modern fighting gadgets to enable them [to] discharge their duties effectively.”

Mohammed youths would be forced to take further action in three weeks’ time if the government did not take urgent measures to address the ongoing killings in the state.

The youths demanded compensation for victims, villages and security operatives whose loved ones have been killed, kidnapped or displaced.
