Former Arsenal star Emmanuel Petit has urged the club to consider Wilfried Zaha, Alan Saint-Maximin or Christian Pulisic to help fill the void left by Gabriel Jesus’ injury.
The Gunners are set to be without the Brazil international for three months after he underwent knee surgery having picked up an injury in Qatar.
The 26-year-old has played a vital role in Arsenal rising to the summit of the Premier League this season and while Eddie Nketiah is on hand to step in, Petit feels another option in attack is needed in January.
The former France international however has warned his old side off a move for Benfica starlet Goncalo Ramos, who scored a stunning hat-trick for Portugal in the last 16 thrashing of Switzerland.
Petit thinks it is ‘too early’ for a big move for the 21-year-old, instead naming three Premier League options he believes fit the bill.
‘I’m so sad for Gabriel Jesus, honestly. He’s been doing a great job for Arsenal,’ Petit told OddsBetting.
‘I love watching him smile on the pitch and he has fit perfectly with Arteta and Arsenal.
‘They need reinforcements in the transfer market. There was talk about Goncalo Ramos and although he scored a hat-trick against Switzerland, I think it’s too early.
‘He didn’t have any impact against Morocco. No headers, no runs, no hold up.
‘He disappeared on the pitch yesterday [Saturday] and I think he’s a good player, he’s doing a good job at Benfica but he’s not my first option.
‘Zaha from Palace, Saint-Maximin from Newcastle or Pulisic from Chelsea would be my three they should target.
‘Pulisic will fit perfectly with what Arteta wants, he loves playing one-touch football with good movement and he lives in London so it will be an easy switch.’
Arsenal have also been linked with a move for Dutch star Cody Gakpo, with PSV Eindhoven valuing the forward at £50million.
Reports have also suggested the club revisit interest in Lille and Atletico Madrid stars Jonathan David and Joao Felix.
