Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Kingsley Moghalu, has said that the removal of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II in 2020 was an extreme abuse of power.

Newspot reported that the reinstatement was consequent upon a bill earlier passed by the State House of Assembly on Thursday.

Moghalu, in a post on his X handle on Thursday, expressed excitement that Sanusi has been reappointed as the 16th Emir of Kano.

The former CBN governor claimed that the wrong, referring to Sanusi’s enthronement in 2020, has been righted, adding that Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf and the state legislature did the right thing.

He said: “So happy that my dear friend and former boss Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 14th Emir of Kano, former Governor @cenbank , and Chairman of the Advisory Board of @IGETAfrica has been reappointed as the 16th Emir of Kano. Historic! Congratulations Khalifa.

“I’m happy the wrong has been righted, and thank Kano State Governor @Kyusufabba and the Kano State Legislature for doing the right thing. Sanusi’s removal as Emir in 2020 was an extreme abuse of power. Full stop. Traditional rulers in Nigeria need to be protected by a new Nigerian Constitution and given appropriate status, so that our historic cultural institutions will not be desecrated by transient holders of state governorships.”
