The leadership of the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion Most Revd Henry Ndukuba has taken an overview of the Emergency Rule In Rivers State and said that both parties must obey the rule of law to allow peace to reign.
Speaking in Abuja the Archbishop Metropolitan and Primate of all Nigeria Ndukuba declared: “Without peace, even the government cannot be stable. Without peace the people cannot do their daily work. We must work within the boundaries and actually we pray that all the parties will have understanding and be ready to have dialogue, ready to talk and ready to sort out these issues.”
Frankly speaking, he said: “All of us; from the President to myself, to the people in the streets, we are all citizens of this nation. We are under the rule of law and we must work together for the good of all.”
He regretted that attempts had been made to settle this matter, “but some people think they have to do what they want. But I think that time has come that all will listen to each other for the good of this nation.”
The Primate counseled that ” we cannot continue like this, because nobody is above the law, nobody is above this nation.
“The understanding that some believe they own must control it and some must have it and some must suffer it. Such I don’t think will help this nation. And I believe that time has come when leadership must return to what it must be”.
He reminded the leadership of tĥis country that “Jesus says He who desires to lead must first be the servant of all. Leadership is a sacred trust from God and must be handled with reverence and fear from God.
“There have been Kings in the past, even in the scriptures. Pharaohs rose and they are no more today. Kingdoms rise and fall but the people will continue.”
The Primate said he was optimistic that this nation will not collapse because of the desire of a few people. Whether it be from the presidency or the national assembly, governor’s, ministers or whoever.”
All of us he said: “are under the authority of God and the stewardship of the resources and the blessings that God has blessed us with.
“So let us be humble, today we be, tomorrow we may never be. So let us be careful”
