Emefiele: You would’ve engaged audit firm – Expert tells Tinubu

A financial expert, Prof Uche Uwaleke has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to engage an audit firm instead of a private investigator to probe the Central Bank of Nigeria.

According to NAN, Uwaleke, a lecturer at Nasarawa State University and former President of Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), Okechukwu Unegbu, disclosed this on Sunday.

Recall that Tinubu last month announced the appointment of Osyande Obazee as a special investigator to probe CBN following the removal of Godwill Emefiele.

Uwaleke said it is in a good place for the President to commission an inquiry into the activities of the apex bank.

However, Uwaleke said that a consortium of audit firms could be trusted to do a more thorough probe than a private investigator.

“…But in doing so, the president will approach it better by engaging the services of a consortium of reputable audit firms rather than giving that responsibility to an individual,” he said.

Unegbu said the president could have opted for a reputable audit firm to probe CBN.

“We need reputable and impartial audit firms to do the examination,” he said.

Tinubu removed Emefiele as CBN governor on June 9.
