A philanthropist, business mogul and leading governorship aspirant in the 2026 election in Ekiti State, Otunba Peter Obafemi, OPO, has acknowledged the sacrifices of the Nigerian Armed Forces in maintaining peace and security as well as stabilizing the country.
The Armed Forces Remembrance Day, AFRD is observed every January 15 to honour fallen heroes of the Nigerian Armed Forces in various wars and national assignments.
In a statement personally signed by Obafemi to commemorate the Armed Forces Remembrance Day and Emblem Appeal week, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chieftain noted that the Armed Forces Remembrance Day brings to the fore the efforts and sacrifices of officers, some of whom paid the ultimate price in the course of serving the nation.
Obafemi stated further that security forces have demonstrated unparalleled patriotism, courage, loyalty, and commitment as they face the challenges involved in defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
“Today, we honor the immeasurable sacrifices made by the brave men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces who have dedicated their lives to protecting our nation.
“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all serving officers who continue to defend our sovereignty, often in the most challenging circumstances. Your dedication ensures our safety and preserves the peace we hold dear.
‘I sincerely acknowledge and commend the unrelenting efforts of the Nigeria Legion of Ex-servicemen at caring and providing for its members consistently in mobilizing funds annually to aid their incapacitated colleagues and families.
“To the families of our fallen heroes, we solemnly remember and honor the memory of your loved ones who paid the ultimate price for our freedom. Your strength and resilience remind us of the profound cost of the peace we enjoy today.
“On this day, I urge us all to renew our commitment to supporting our armed forces and upholding the values of unity, sacrifice, and patriotism that they exemplify.
“I also call for all hands to be on deck in achieving an enviable Country in the comity of nations, urging for collaboration and greater synergy between politicians, Military and the Judiciary”.
