Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has claimed that the victory of the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate in the Edo State governorship election is a reflection of the confidence Nigerians have in President Bola Tinubu.
Akpabio addressed the press on Sunday after the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared Monday Okpebholo of the APC winner of the election conducted on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
Okpebholo of the APC won 11 local government areas, while the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate, Asue Ighodalo won 7 leaving, Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party LP, with none.
“I strongly believe that the election in Edo, though tense at the beginning, is a reflection of the confidence that Nigerians continue to express in President Tinubu,” Akpabio said.
INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, officially announced Okpebholo winner of the election.
Okpebholo, according to INEC, garnered 291,667 votes to beat Ighodalo and Akpata with 247,274 and 18,737 votes, respectively.
