The deputy governor-elect of Edo State Dennis Idahosa and some youth have kept watch at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Benin City.

Some of them were carrying the party’s flag and chanted “APC!!!” as they marched through the street leading to the area.

Idahosa and the youths are accusing Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State of plotting to invade the facility.

“We are here at the INEC premises today because as of yesterday, we heard from a reliable source that the current governor had mobilized to come and invade the INEC premises. And while we are here as concerned Edo youths, we would not allow that to happen. That is why we are here to ensure that there is stability, there is law and order in this place.

“Obaseki is just an individual. He has no monopoly on violence. But we are here as a collective Edo youth to protect this facility because on the 21st of last month, elections were held and the APC won in a very huge manner,” he said while addressing the crowd on Monday.

“And now the process is over, if they have any disputes whatsoever or any concerns, there are processes to go through that. You cannot turn Edo into a place of unrest.

“So, we are sure that they have finalised all their plans to invade this facility.
That is why we are here to join forces with the security agencies to ensure that there is peace and stability in this state.”

Security operatives were also seen around the INEC premises in Benin City.  Obaseki’s camp is yet to comment on the claims.

The development came weeks after the Edo State Governorship election which was won by the APC with PDP’s Asue Ighodalo who was Obaseki’s candidate coming second.

But the PDP has alleged that the polls were marred by irregularities and vowed to challenge Monday Okpebholo’s declaration as the winner of the election.
