Scores of aged voters trooped out in large numbers in Ewohimi in Esan South East Local Government Area to exercise their franchise in Saturday’s Governorship election in Edo State.

Newspot reports that among the aged voters are Chief Ikehide Honda, 91 years old, Mrs Betty Evbuomwan, 82 years and Chief Idida Friday, over 70 years.

The voters cast their votes at Ward 1, unit 3, Okaigben Idinrio primary school.

Speaking shortly after voting, the duo of Ikehide and Betty said they were spurred to vote by the strong motivation that the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP is a native of the community.

According to Pa Ikehide, I am the head of this community. I have lived long enough to know when something important is happening. Today, we are standing with our own.

“If our son, Asue Ighodalo wins the election more development will get to us. Other governors that had governed this state developed their communities. We want him to win,” he said.

On her part, 82 years Betty Evbuomwan, said, “I am here to vote for my son. We want him to win to develop our community.

Also speaking Idida Friday said, “It is a great day for us. Our people are united, especially our elderly, who understand the significance of this moment.

“Ewohimi has never seen this level of participation by our elderly population, and it is because we believe in the capacity and vision of our son, who is one of us.

Another elder of the community, Wilson Bello, added that “the atmosphere is filled with optimism and a sense of shared purpose as we express our hope for a brighter future with one of our own vying for a leadership position.

“Our turnout, against all odds, is a testament to our resolve and the desire for progress of Ewohimi and the state in general”, he stated.

Newspot reported that their presence in the polling unit showed their unwavering determination to exercise their civic rights.
