Eddie Hearn believes Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte would beat Tyson Fury and insists the Gypsy King still need to prove himself in order to be the ‘standout’ heavyweight after his win over Deontay Wilder last weekend.

Fury retained his WBC heavyweight title by knocking out Wilder in the 11th round of their thrilling trilogy fight in Las Vegas.

Whyte, who is due to fight Otto Wallin later this month, is currently Fury’s mandatory challenger for the WBC belt.

And Hearn believes Fury needs to beat Whyte, Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk in order to be considered a true legend of the current heavyweight era.

‘He’s only beat one guy in the last three years,’ Hearn told iFL TV.

‘Maybe he beats everybody and goes down as one of the great heavyweights of all time, but to do that you have to beat the fighters of your era, you can’t just fight one guy.

‘So he needs to fight AJ, he needs to fight Usyk, he needs to fight Dillian, he needs to fight maybe in time [Filip] Hrgovic who is coming through the ranks, or [Joe] Joyce, whoever is there.

‘He needs to stay active, he’s always talked about activity being important. Andre Ward saying, ‘no just wait’… what wait another year, so you have three fights in three years?

‘And is it just me that thinks Tyson Fury against Dillian Whyte is a massive fight? That does a million-and-a-half pay-per-view buys in the UK, it sells out a stadium in the UK, it’s a massive fight, and he’s mandatory, you’re champion… take care of your mandatory and do it in a fight that’s going to make you a fortune.

‘I don’t see the big deal with suggesting that fight because outside of AJ and Usyk, it’s the biggest fight out there. And if you think Usyk is going to beat AJ [again] then fight Dillian Whyte then you can fight Usyk after.

‘I believe Dillian Whyte can beat Tyson Fury, and I know AJ can beat Usyk, but if you’re all so confident, just get those out of the way and go and to your undisputed fight.

‘I think Tyson Fury beats Dillian Whyte ten times out of ten. And if Fury says he’s number-one heavyweight, and on paper it’s hard to argue right now, in that case he can go through all those fighters and become a great, but to do it you can just beat one guy in three years, you’ve got to fight the other contenders and champions.

‘I think he’ll be up for that, he’s a fighting man, hopefully he takes the challenge of Dillian Whyte.

‘I feel Anthony Joshua is the best heavyweight in the world and I believe he beats Tyson Fury.

‘But right now when you look at what’s happened over the past couple of weeks, when you look at everything on paper, Fury is arguably [the best], maybe it’s hard to argue that he’s not, but he has beaten one guy in three years.

‘I’ve seen him go up a few spots in the pound-for-pound rankings after just beating a guy he beat in six rounds in his last fight.

‘I just think that until he fights the other challengers in the division, how good is he? He’s really good, we know that, but I think to be that standout, pound-for-pound guy, you’ve got to beat the contenders and the champions of the division.

‘He’s had one defence of his world heavyweight title but it was a great win, he showed great heart, so exciting, he’s a great character, brilliant, I’m not disputing that, I just feel to elevate up a pound-for-pound ranking on beating a guy you’ve already knocked out in six rounds in your last fight, let’s see him fight the other great dangers in the division.’
