Ebonyi State’s First Lady, Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, has condemned the dehumanizing of two teenage girls in Ojiegbe Ngbo community in the Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state.
The First Lady, in a statement issued by her Press Secretary, Mrs. Nnenna Oshibe, expressed shock over the viral video making the rounds on social media of two teenage girls stripped naked and flogged by youths in Ojiegbe Ngbo community for stealing two old layers. She described their actions as “deeply troubling” and a “grave violation of human dignity.”
She emphasized that every citizen in the state, particularly young girls and women, deserves to live free from harm, fear, abuse, mistreatment, or violence, as it is not acceptable nor tolerated across Ebonyi communities.
She reiterated that the present administration is committed to ensuring that justice is served to perpetrators of this act.
The wife of the governor applauded the efforts of the state Commissioner of Police, CP Anthonia Uche-Anya, and her team for arresting the prime suspects, Dennis Ali and Ituma Sunday.
She also urged community leaders to ensure that the victims get proper care and endeavor to prevent future incidents across communities in the state.
The wife of the governor further reiterated that her foundation, Better Health for Rural Women and the Less Privileged (BERWO), would continue to collaborate with agencies to support abuse victims and advocate for women and girls’ welfare.
She, however, extended sympathy and support to the affected families, reaffirming her commitment to ensuring justice for gender-based violence survivors.
