Nigeria’s Flamingos has been involved in two record breaking moments at the ongoing world U17 Women’s Football cup in the Dominican Republic which just concluded all group games and preparing for the Knockout rounds by Saturday.

Nigeria attracted the highest crowd that would ever watch a football match with 13,535 fans at the stands during the Nigeria versus Dominic Republic match played at the Santo Domingo Stadium in which the host country lost to Nigeria by a lone goal. No match in that country has ever attracted such a crowd.

Out of the 24 matches played so far 73 goals has been scored (3.04 goals per match) and the highest goal scorer is Shakirat Abidemi Moshood with 4 goals. Two players trailing Shakirat are Rim-jong Choe of North Korea and Mel Barcenas of USA with 3 goals each.

Dominic Republic used two venues and two cities to host the world but from 2025 the world U17 women’s football tournament shall no bore hold once in two years but annually and not with 16 participating teams but 24 teams which is coming to Africa for the first time and would hold in Morocco.

Nigeria will play the first quarterfinal against USA on Saturday at 8:30 pm going back to the stadium of their first two matches at Santiago de los Cabelleros while Ecuador will test might against Spain in the 3rd quarterfinal on Sunday by 8:30 pm at Santiago Domino.

Poland will be next opponent of England in the 2nd quarterfinal scheduled for Saturday at 2330 hours and Japan will do battle in an Asian war against North Korea in the 4th quarter final on Sunday at 2330 hours.

The semifinals will be Nigeria/USA versus North Korea/Japan on Wednesday at Midnight while the 2nd semifinal will be England/ Poland versus Spain/Ecuador on Thursday at midnight.

The 3rd place match for the Bronze Medal is scheduled for Sunday at 1930 hours before the grand finale at 2300 hours of same Sunday.
