The Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, has warned candidates against giving their registration details to third-parties, including their parents, for the purpose of currying favours, adding that by so doing they would be exposing themselves to all manners of exploitation that could lead to their disqualification by the Board. According to the Registrar, registration details are pieces of private information, which should not be readily available to anyone. He, therefore, warned that any candidate whose data is found in the possession of any fraudster or any other person other than the candidate, would be dealt with as an accomplice to the crime. He said, “Candidates are to keep all their details secret as they are not to disclose such to anybody, not even their parents.”The Registrar’s statement came on the heels of the heightened preparations for the conduct of the 2024 UTME, which commenced on Friday, 19th April, 2024.He explained that such data, if exposed to third parties, could compromise their records as well as jeopardise their academic future. Furthermore, Prof. Oloyede stressed the need for parents and guardians of candidates to steer clear of examination venues pointing out that any candidate seeking to take the Board’s examination should be at least 17 years old so as to be mature enough to exercise some independence noting that ” The UTME is not a school-based examination and, as such, the Board has no dealings with anyone other than the candidates. Therefore, it is the responsibility of candidates to ensure that their parents keep away from the examination venue. Any parent or “tout” masquerading as a parent or guardian, who disrupts the Board’s examination, would be apprehended by law enforcement agencies and their wards disqualified from sitting the examination.”
