The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 6 Calabar, Jonathan Towuru has ordered the Commissioner of Police in Cross River State to deplore his entire security architecture to ensure the swift rescue of Prof Ephraim Ekanem who was abducted over about three weeks ago.
The medical doctor was abducted by gunmen while consulting with patients in her office at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital in broad daylight.
Addressing senior Police Officers of the Cross River State Command, Toworu harped on watertight security, emphasizing that they should redouble their efforts to ensure that the state is restored to its crime-free and peaceful status.
He expressed worry at the spate of kidnapping and other sundry crimes in the state, directing that they must be drastically reduced.
He directed the Commissioner of Police to strategize and map out an adequate deployment of all police personnel for improved security of lives and property in the state.
He said they should apply lawful tactics to prevent such crimes in line with democratic policing.
“I want you to put in your best and ensure that Prof. Ekanem Philip Ephraim is released unharmed.
“The Commissioner of Police is directed to build on the existing synergy between other security services for optimum results regarding this directive.”
He enjoined law-abiding citizens to embrace the citizen-driven community policing approach of the Nigeria Police by sharing information that will help the Police to rid the society of criminal elements.
