The People of Nsukwa Clan in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State on Saturday protested the alleged marginalisation by successive governments led by Peoples Democratic Party in Delta State.
The people under the aegis of Concerned Youths for the Political Liberation of Aniocha South called on Governor Sheriff Oborevweri to as a matter of urgency address the current political anomaly and imbalance in the local government.
Speaking at a news conference in Asaba, Mr Andrew Okolie, Okpor Idioms and Obodo Kester lamented the marginalisation done on the Nsukwa Clan in terms of infrastructures, political appointments over the years.
They said, “We are the concerned youths for the political liberation of Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State.
“We wish to bring to the knowledge of Governor Oborevweri about the current political anomaly and imbalance in the council areas which is threatening our democracy.
“Aniocha South is made of three distinctive Clans; Ogwashi, Ubulu and Nsukwa. But presently Nsukwa Clan has been completely shortchanged and emasculated despite working so hard to deliver PDP in the last elections despite the incursion of LP..
“We have written petition to the leadership of PDP both at the local government and state level to address the imbalance but we have not heard from them.
“We also wrote petition to Governor Sheriff Oborevweri over the matter but yet to hear from him, that is why we decided to speak to journalists to ensure that the governor hear our cry.
“We are one PDP family, supported the party even more than other clans especially in this 2023 election but we have not enjoy the dividend of democracy since the beginning despite voting massively to the party.
“The three Clans used to share the three offices; House of Assembly, Commissioner and Chairmanship slots in no special order.
“As we speak, Ubulu-Uku is holding commissioner and chairmanship slots while Ogwashi-Uku is holding House of Assembly seat.
“We calling on the governor who is a product of zoing and power rotation Delta PDP has been known since the return of democracy in 1999, to zone Chairmanship slot to Nsukwa.
They accused the State Commissioner for Technical Education, Joan Onyemaechi who hails from Ubulu clan to have hijacked everything to her clan, noting that her younger brother is currently the council Chairman.
Reacting to the allegation, Onyemaechi insisted that there is a zoning formula in the Aniocha South and that must be maintained.
“Let me correct the impression, we operate zoning here. Our zoning formula is intact. So Ubulu clan will complete their two tenure in 2027 at the council before it will zone to Nsukwa.
“We only have power to zone LG Chairman, Party Chairman and House of Assembly seat. We don’t have power to Commissioner slot, it is the prerogative of the governor to appoint any person he wishes.
“I don’t understand what them mean by marginalization, only time the council zoning was interrupted was when Nsukwa donated its slot to Ogwashi-Uku, so, they should wait for their turn in 2027”
Onyemaechi, former House of Reps member representing Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency noted that currently, Ogwashi is holding PDP Chairman and House of Assembly seat while Ubulu is holding Chairmanship slot.
