Declaring Yahaya Bello wanted unnecessary – Bwala slams EFCC

A former spokesman to the defunct Atiku-Okowa Presidential Campaign Council, Daniel Bwala, has faulted the decision of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to declare ex-Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello wanted.

Bwala said EFCC had all the instruments at its disposal to arrest Bello, hence declaring him wanted was not necessary.

He wondered why EFCC could not treat Bello the same way it did to former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha.

EFCC had declared Bello wanted over an alleged case of money laundering to the tune of N80.2 billion.

The anti-graft agency has also informed the Federal High Court in Abuja that it was considering the possibility of engaging the Nigerian Army to effect Bello’s arrest.

This followed the agency’s inability to arrest the former governor during a raid on his residence in Abuja during the week.

The intervention of Bello’s successor, Governor Usman Ododo, enabled the ex-governor to evade arrest.

Since the incidence in Abuja, the former governor’s whereabouts has remained unknown, a situation that prompted the EFCC to declare him wanted.

Reacting, Bwala posted on X: “Unless EFCC and Yaya Bello are both doing simulation for a movie about the agency and former governors, the press statement captioned “wanted” is not necessary.

“You were at his residence to effect arrest- you failed to apply ACJA or better still what you did to Okorocha at his residence.

“You knew who came and whisked him away- you allowed that

“Both him and the incumbent governor have security detail from police and SSS who must report activities including the whereabouts of their VIPs to their commands- meaning his whereabouts is not hidden

“You knew Police and SSS have surveillance instruments for geo-tracking and geo-locating- yet you failed to approach

“You are asking the general public to give you information about someone you have every reason to know his whereabouts. Please do your job without dramatizing it.”
