Death toll from poisoned food incident in Kwara increases to five


The death toll from the poisoned food which killed four members of a family at Olori village, Banni community in Kwara North Senatorial district on Thursday, has increased to five.

The death of the latest victim identified as the mother in the family occurred in the early hours of Friday.

Two other members of the family are presently receiving treatment at the General hospital, Banni, according to a statement by the spokesman of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Kwara Command, Babawale Zaid Afolabi in Ilorin.

Newspot recalls that four members of the same family died on Thursday as a result of poisoned food.

Umar and Kadir Mohammed are two children of Mohammed Abubakar of Olori village, Banni community in Kwara North.

They reportedly started vomiting after consuming the poisoned food at about 4am on Thursday and were rushed to the General hospital at Igbeti, in Oyo State where it was confirmed they had taken poisoned food.

They, however, died in the hospital few minutes after arrival, while two other members of the family also died later.
