Day 2 of Hunger protests: Situation calm in Kwara

The August 1-10 nationwide protests entered its second day on Friday with no major ugly incidents recorded in Kwara state, Newspot reports.

As of 10: 00 am, everywhere was cool and calm in Ilorin, the state capital.

The popular Post-Office was bustling with trading and commerce going smoothly.

Residents also went about their lawful businesses, while there was free flow of traffic and banks are also opened for business.

Govt offices also opened and workers reported for duty at their various places of work.

Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Square on Asa Dam road in Ilorin, designated for protesters by a court injunction remained deserted as no activity is taking place there since the first day of the protest on Thursday.

Spokesman of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, Kwara state command, Ayoola Michael Shola, in a chat with Newspot in Ilorin on Friday, described “the protest as peaceful so far without gathering of people anywhere in the state capital.”

However, security forces are still manning some strategic locations in the state capital.
