PDC world number one Gerwyn Price has announced that he will be competing in a charity boxing match in April, one that he needs to cut a lot of weight for.

The former world champion, who has already played rugby union and league professionally, now wants to give boxing a go and will step into the ring on 9 April.

Price will take on an opponent called Rhys ‘Cool Fly & Flashy’ Evans, but it will not be in the kind of arenas he is used to playing in on the PDC circuit.

The fight will take place at the Valley Tavern pub in Fleur-de-Lys, south Wales, in an event dubbed, ‘Tearup At The Tav’.

Still boasting the physique of his rugby days, Price wrote on Instagram: ‘Need to drop 10kg for this.’

Price added on Twitter on Thursday: ‘I will be taking part in a charity boxing match to raise funds for 3 chosen charity’s one very close to my heart St David’s hospice who cared for my mother-in-law for a short while with her battle with cancer they were incredible let’s raise has much as possible.’

The Iceman will have to fit in his boxing training around a busy darts schedule between now and the bout, with a string of big matches to come before then.

There are seven Premier League nights from 17 February – 7 March, with the latter of those in Leeds just two days before Price will fight Evans in Wales.

The UK Open is also coming around from 4-6 March in Minehead and there are Players Championship events along the way as well.

In fact, there are two Players Championship events in Barnsley on 9 and 10 April, which we can assume Price will not be competing in.
