UFC president Dana White insists Conor McGregor will return to the octagon as a ‘headliner’.

The Dubliner last fought in July when he suffered a fractured tibia in his trilogy defeat to Dustin Poirier.

McGregor looks to be making a swift recovery with training footage shared in recent months showing the former champion seemingly well ahead of schedule in his bid to launch a comeback.

McGregor has headlined five of the UFC’s biggest grossing PPVs of all time, fighting in the main event in his last 10 fights.

Back-to-back defeats to Poirier in 2021 have ensured the 33-year-old has now lost three of his last four UFC bouts but White insists his status as one of the promotion’s biggest headline attractions is not under threat.

‘He’s still one of the top 10 guys in the world,’ White told Pardon My Take.

‘It would depend on who he’s fighting and things like that, but yeah, Conor [McGregor] coming back is a headliner.

‘Eventually once you start to go in that direction, when a guy gets to Conor’s level, this conversation about Nate Diaz, these guys are making big money.

‘I want these guys to stick around and get as much as they can before it’s over.’
