The Oyo-Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has announced that it generated revenue of N72.56 billion between January and November 2024.

The Area Controller, Ben Oramalugo, disclosed this on Friday in Ibadan while briefing journalists on the command’s achievements during the period under review.

Oramalugo stated that the revenue generated represented a significant increase of 13.17 per cent compared to the N64.12 billion collected within the same period in 2023.

He attributed the achievements to officers’ diligence, enhanced enforcement of customs laws, and improved trade facilitation measures.

According to him, the command had strengthened compliance among excise stakeholders and effectively curtailed revenue leakages.

The controller noted that the revenue collected contributed significantly to national development and supported the federal government’s economic agenda.

“In addition to revenue collection duties, the Oyo-Osun Area Command has intensified its efforts in safeguarding lives and protecting local industries.

“Our anti-smuggling operation strategies have already been deployed as the festive season approaches, leaving no stone unturned to safeguard citizens, facilitate legitimate trade, secure local industries, and ensure compliance with the law,” he said.

According to the controller, between October 30 and December 19, the command intercepted prohibited items with a Duty-Paid Value, DPV, of N370.77 million.

He listed the seized items, which include 110 bags of 50kg foreign rice, 400 packs of foreign macaroni, 377 litres of petrol (25 litres each), 111 bales of second-hand clothing, 348 pieces of used tyres, 50 cartons of banned chloroquine injections, one DAF truck, and one canter vehicle used as a means of conveyance.

Oramalugo emphasised that the dangers posed by smuggling activities could not be overstated. He affirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring smuggling activities do not thrive in the area, thereby fostering peace and harmony.

He commended the Customs Comptroller-General, Bashir Adeniyi, for his unwavering support of the command and for the several awards he received.

Oramalugo also acknowledged the contributions of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, traditional rulers, and sister security agencies for their support.

He urged the public to continue supporting the command, reiterating its commitment to upholding transparency and accountability.
