Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has suggested he would like to permanently sign Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea.

Last summer, Enzo Maresca told Chalobah he had no future at Stamford Bridge but was unable to sell him, with interested clubs put off by the defender’s £25million price tag.

Ultimately, Palace signed him on a season-long loan on deadline day, though no option to buy the Englishman was included in the deal.

So far, the loan has been very productive with Chalobah forming a great defensive partnership alongside Marc Guehi and Maxence Lacroix, and he’s proven himself to be a threat at set-pieces, scoring three goals.

All this has led to speculation that the Eagles could try and purchase the 25-year-old, especially with the Blues keen to sell.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of Palace’s match with Chelsea on Saturday – a game Chalobah is ineligible to play in – Glasner was asked about this possibility.

Though he did not want to fuel speculation, the Austrian could not hide his delight with the loanee’s impact, saying: ‘A deal happens if three parties are happy with it: the two clubs and the player.

‘If all parties want to have a deal, and agree, it will happen. He’s doing really well for us and we were very consistent in our defensive line.

‘Trevoh has now scored three goals but we always say that is extra for a defender. He has three, Lacroix has one, Guehi has two.

‘Add Daniel Munoz and we have eight from our back-five. This is 40 per cent of the goals we scored and it’s very important that we have defenders who can score goals.’

Chalobah, who made 80 appearances for boyhood club Chelsea over the past three seasons, still has over four years left on his contract.

As well as incomings, Palace are also expected to receive offers for Chelsea academy graduate Guehi after Newcastle made a £65million bid last summer.

The England international has just 18 months left on his contract but Glasner insists he is going nowhere this month and instead expects two new additions to his squad.

‘No player from our squad came to me and said “I want to leave”,’ he added.

‘No-one has played this many minutes like Marc. I am not concerned that Marc will leave.

‘It is clear we want two players. I hope we get them yesterday rather than tomorrow. We have a clear commitment that we will sign two players.’
