Cristiano Ronaldo has missed Manchester United’s final Premier League game of the season against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

The 37-year-old will finish as United’s top scorer in the Premier League this term with 18 goals.

But he will play no part in United’s trip to Selhurst Park as Ralf Rangnick makes four changes from the 4-0 defeat to Brighton on May 7.

Hannibal Mejbri has been handed his first Premier League start, while Edinson Cavani leads United’s attack in Ronaldo’s absence.

Elsewhere, Harry Maguire returns to the starting XI and replaces Raphael Varane, who drops to the bench, while Fred starts in midfield for the first time since his injury at the start of April.

United’s academy players Alvaro Fernandez, Charlie Savage, Shola Shoretire and Alejandro Garnacho have all made the bench.

When asked about Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford and the other absences in his squad for United’s fixture against Palace, Rangnick told MUTV: ‘Yes, they are all not available due to injuries so we have some players missing today.’

Asked about the decision to start Hannibal, Rangnick said: ‘[I will tell him to] just try to play as he trained.

‘He was good in training for the last two weeks which is why I decided to have him in the starting XI today.

‘It’s a good experience. Maybe a couple, one or two, may come onto the pitch during the game but we will try to win the game. This is our job.’
