Countdown’s Rachel Riley will have a stylist to help her get ready for the Channel 4 show when she returns in the new year from maternity leave.

It was recently reported that the maths whizz considered quitting the teatime programme as rumours of a rift between her and new co-star Anne Robinson, who has found her ‘too loud’ while sharing small talk with contestants, continue.

Now, heavily pregnant Rachel, 35, has shared she plans to have a team on standby to doll her up while she’s busy tending to her second child, which is soon due to survive.

‘When you have a newborn, and especially when you have a toddler as well, you don’t have time for a shower,’ Rachel said.

‘So when I get back to work someone will be paid to do my hair and make-up.’

Rachel added to The Sun: ‘You don’t recognise yourself the first time you go back because you’ve just been in mum mode and haven’t washed your hair for a while.’

Rachel shares 18-month-old daughter Maven with her husband former Strictly Come Dancing professional Pasha Kovalev.

She is currently on maternity leave but is expected to return to Countdown in January.

Last month, it was reported Rachel and Anne haven’t seen eye to eye since The Weakest Link tyrant took over from Nick Hewer, who gave up his seat as Countdown.

While neither Anne nor Rachel have commented on the claims of a rift, body language expert Judi James has noted their rapport has a layer of perma-frost at its core’.

She told Metro.co.uk: ‘Neither woman appears to be using the kind of encouragement and affirmation sounds and signals you’d normally expect in a small-talk chat, especially one on the TV, where the “chemistry” is normally more emphatic.

‘TV presenters on quizzes normally turn their small chats together into an art form as it’s these moments that can make or break a show as well as a career, but this sounds and looks rather flat as though the two women really are finding it difficult to create any rapport, speaking at one another rather than to one another.’

Last week, it was claimed Anne – who joined the show in June – had Rachel’s microphone turned off after she reportedly found her chatting to contestants ‘hugely distracting’.

Countdown airs weekdays at 2.10pm on Channel 4.
