The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) has expressed concerns over the Monday fire incident at the Supreme Court in Abuja.

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command says an investigation into the cause of fire incidents at the Supreme Court is currently ongoing.

Newspot had reported that a section of the apex court was gutted by fire in the early hours of Monday.

It was gathered that the offices of some justices were burnt down during the incident.

Reacting, COSEYL, in a statement issued by its President General, Goodluck Ibem, said such an incident “is indeed a threat to our nation’s judiciary,” citing the evidence submitted to the court by party presidential candidates in the last election.

The coalition also called on security agencies to properly investigate the cause of the inferno.

The statement reads partly, “We hope it is not a ploy by some unscrupulous elements to tamper with evidence and the rule of law.

“We call on the security agencies to conduct a proper investigation to unravel the true cause of the fire and deal with it decisively.

“We also call on the Supreme Court Justices not to be perturbed by the fire incident and remain focused on their duty to uphold the law which they swore to protect.”
