The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football, CONCACAF, on Thursday announced Haiti’s Melchie Dumornay and Panama’s Adalberto Carrasquilla as 2023/24 CONCACAF Women’s and Men’s Players of the Year, respectively.
The football governing body also disclosed that Andre-Pierre Gignac’s free-kick goal in Round One of the 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup has been selected by fans as the Goal of the Year.
The CONCACAF official player awards programme saw Melchie and Adalberto selected based on a football-first voting system.
It included the participation of coaches and players from CONCACAF member associations, as well as media members of the region and fans.
The 2023/24 season nominees included a list of six players in each category.
All the players were selected based on performance statistics and the input of football experts.
Reacting to Dumornay winning the CONCACAF Women’s Player of the Year Award for 2023/24, CONCACAF President Victor Montagliani said: “On behalf of CONCACAF, I congratulate Melchie as a very worthy winner of this award.
“We have seen her tremendous rise in our confederation with her incredible skill and determination.”
On Carrasquilla winning the CONCACAF Men’s Player of the Year Award for 2023/24, Montagliani added: “He has driven Panama to the next level on the pitch, and I congratulate him as a very worthy CONCACAF Player of the Year. On behalf of CONCACAF, I congratulate Coco.”
